Matt has been an avid points collector since 1992 (an elementary school student), when his dad signed up for the new (at the time) Air Miles program. Since then, Matt took a keen interest in learning how the miles and points world works. He quickly found out that there is a lot of value in leveraging miles and points to fund his passion for travelling.

Thoughts on the Aeroplan and Air Canada Breakup

Based on the wording from an Aeroplan news release, it may seem like the the door is left open for them to renew their contract. I mean, there is still 3 years to go before it expires. So for the time being, it is business as usual for Aeroplan members.

From Air Canada’s perspective, they seem more firm that their plan is to launch its own loyalty program.

WestJet To Buy Boeing 787 Dreamliners

It looks like WestJet is planning on stepping up its game by buying twenty 787 Boeing Dreamliners to increase their international routes. Expect to see more direct routes from Canada to Asia, Europe and South America.

The news has been out for a while now, but the first delivery of 10 planes only arrive between the first quarter of 2019 and the end of 2021. There is an option for the additional 10 Dreamliners that would be delivered between 2020 and 2024.

Comparing Canada and US Best Western Credit Card

Best Western Rewards is one of my favourite loyalty programs, even though it is not considered one of the more luxurious brands, so it may not be as popular in the frequent flyer community. I think the two main reasons why I like them is because of the no points expiry policy and the fact that they offer a very competitive co-branded credit card in Canada. Without a credit card option, they probably would not be so high on my list of favourite hotel programs.

Below is the highlights of a list of co-branded Best Western in Canada and the United States.

Frustrations with Aeroplan… What to do about it!

This is more of a continuation of Avery’s post (Aeroplan has a little problem…) from DTCA about problems with Aeroplan.

Normally, I much prefer not writing any negative posts, because this blog is suppose to be about maximizing rewards with some tips and tricks. But when we hit too many roadblocks, it may feel like our suggestions are not even useful.

Ranking the Credit Card Portfolios of Each Canadian Financial Institutions (updated May 1, 2017)

It has been exactly 6 months since the last time I updated this list. The reason is because there has been very little movement until the past two months, where there were quite a few changes in the credit card industry that warrants an update to the rankings. Last year was a strong year for credit cards, so I assumed that 2017 would be a slow down year anyway. Unfortunately, most of the changes so far to the industry have been negative. Companies that moved down the list is because of a negative change. The ones that moved up is due to the downfall of the other companies.
