There seems to be so much uncertainty surrounding the MBNA Alaska Airlines World Elite MasterCard. A few day ago, there was an increase in the sign up bonus from 25,000 to 30,000 bonus miles. A few issues have surfaced since then:
The MBNA website no longer lists this credit card on their website.
GreatCanadianRebates also de-listed the credit card for their website.
Any existing application links are broken.
Looks like MBNA has increased its sign up bonus to its highly valuable MBNA Alaska Airlines World Elite MasterCard Credit Card, going from 25,000 to 30,000. There does not appear to be any expiry date on the offer either. Note that MBNA is owned by TD Canada Trust.
I am extremely impressed with this move, especially at a time when I had a feeling that they might shut this credit card down instead.
As we approach the summer months, road trips become more popular. What you want to do is have a nice batch of credit cards to use to optimize spending during the trip. Depending on where you are going, you may want to consider a different grouping of cards.
As a Canadian, generally road trips will either be across Canada, into the United States and some even all the way to Mexico. So I will provide a sample of some of the combinations that can put together.
A few companies need to be added to this list, so I thought it was due for an update from 6 months ago. Most of the ranking changes occurred in the bottom half of the list. Furthermore, I also revamped the list to go with a pure ranking system instead of the previous grouping system. I think that it will run smoother now.

The popular MBNA Smart Cash has added an annual fee. It may still say MasterCard on the MBNA website, but most people should have been converted to a Visa by now.
This is an unfortunate turn of events and it will probably discourage new applicants from signing up. As a result, I will also be taking this card off my top cash back cards list.
As for existing cardholders, if you did not receive a letter in the mail stating that an annual fee is being implemented, then you should be grandfathered.

It has been 4 months since the last time I updated this list, so it is probably due for an update (especially since we are adding a new company to the list!) as we approach the last third of the year. Last year was a strong year for credit cards, so I anticipated a slow year in 2017.

This question of which credit card do I have in my wallet seems to be asked fairly often. So I thought I would share my updated portfolio from last time. I generally try to shake up my batch of credit cards every 3 months, which coincides with the previous post.
