If Annual Fees Were not an Issue
It’s no secret that annual fees are a nuisance. However, in some cases there are enough perks associated with certain credit cards to justify annual fees. Furthermore, if annual fees were not an issue, I would probably not care as much about churning credit card as much, so in some cases, I would simply renew the credit card. If annual fees weren’t an issue, I would probably be travelling much more often, which is why my portfolio may seem more travel centric.

Amtrak is an American national rail company, which is essentially the VIA Rail of the United States. This railway system serves more than 500 destinations spanning across 46 U.S. States and 3 Canadian provinces: British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.
New Link for the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Visa
As you already know, the Chase Canada website has taken off the link to sign up for the Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Visa. But the website is advertising for only 30,000 sign up bonus points. There has been a special link for the 50,000 sign up bonus points instead, but that seems to have discontinued. Furthermore, the old 30,000 link also discontinued, so I almost thought the credit card was finished until I saw this new link with the 30,000 sign up bonus offer.
Points Balance Intact After a Brutal Week in the Market
The past week or so has been brutal in the market and who knows the trend will continue. For sure my investments took a major hit, but I am happy to say that my points portfolio remains in intact. It grew actually because we continue to earn points.
Targeted RBC Bonus Promotion for Adding Authorized Users
The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) appears to be sending out letters to some of its credit card holders offering a bonus for adding authorized users. I received a letter offering 8,000 Shoppers Optimum bonus points. I immediately added my spouse as an authorized user.
Airlines Partners of WestJet (updated August 23, 2015)
There is only so much airline competition in Canada, so I thought I’d give WestJet a closer look. WestJet is not currently a member of any airline alliance, but they do have some valuable partners to consider.
Targeted Back to School Bonus with HSBC Premier MasterCard (expired on September 30, 2015)
HSBC is offering a targeted double the rewards promotion between August 1, 2015 to September 30, 2015. Targeted means that you would need to have received mail with a promotional code. You need to register your HSBC Premier MasterCard and provide promotional code provided in your letter.
Is the $899 Annual Fee for the AMEX AeroplanPlus Reserve Card Worth it?
The $899 annual fee on the American Express AeroplanPlus Reserve Card is the most hefty annual fee out of all the Canadian credit cards. So it would be interested to calculate whether it is actually worth it.
