Many of us were quite unhappy when the MBNA Smart Cash Platinum Plus MasterCard dropped their gas and groceries return from 3% to 2%. Now, Capital One is following MBNA’s lead. Capital One Canada has been one of my favourite institutions, namely because of the Capital One Aspire Travel World MasterCard. That is probably one of my favourite cards.

I do not have a bank with HSBC, but I was curious to see what type of credit cards choices they have so I did a little research. Unfortunately, my first impression was confusion. The section on credit cards is so confusing that I am not able to quickly distinguish the differences between each credit card. After further digging, I learn that you cannot even apply for a credit card online, you have to do it in person. The more obstacles they create, the less interested customers will be in their products.

Lucky, there are free third party websites (a.k.a. mileage manager) that help us consolidate and track our balances into one place. In short, you log into one account and all your programs show up on one screen.

The most commonly used ones are AwardWallet, Using Miles and Tripit.
