Quarantine Process in Canada (updated April 9, 2021)

Since February 22, 2021, people entering Canada have had to quarantine at an approved hotel, however, there are exceptions to the rule (discussed below). This is an addition to the proof of negative COVID-19 test that needs to be presented at the border.

It has been a couple of months since all these rules came into effect, so I thought I’d put together a more comprehensive guide overall and provide any updates since then.

For this month’s list, HSBC extended its offer that was expiring last month. Now it expires in the middle of this month month. While RBC changed up its offer which now expires in June.

Air Canada and Air Transat Terminate Acquisition

Air Canada’s acquisition of Air Transat has been in the works for almost 2 years. After all the hurdles that they had to go through to get to this point, only to end in a cancellation of the buyout.

The agreement required various regulatory authority approvals. It got stuck at the European Commission (“EC”). In short, the EC will not approve the acquisition for several reasons including negatively impacting customers.

[PROMOTION] Air Miles Bonus Boom

Starting today, over the next 3 weeks, Air Miles is offering its spring Bonus Boom promotion. Effective March 25, 2021, until April 14, 2021, Air Miles collectors can earn 95 bonus miles after making purchases at 3 partners. 

We value 1 Air Miles at 11 cents a piece, so 95 bonus miles is worth just over $10.

Best Current First Year Fee Waived Cards for April 2021

All the offers (Scotiabank and Brim) that expired in February actually all got extended. For this month, HSBC is up next for expiry if you were looking at their offers. Only a few days left for the HSBC promotions.

Keep in mind that permanent first year fee waived offer are not included in this list, we are only listing promotions with an end date.

Current 10% Cash Back Portfolio for March 2021

This is the first month that we are eliminating the monthly Top Cash Back Credit Cards post. The reason is because there is a strong 10% cash back market (permanent and temporary offers) in Canada. We have replaced this slot has been replaced with this current post. Fast Track to Best Western Elite Status

While not the flashiest hotel chain, I am still a big fan of Best Western, Where they may lack in luxury, they make it up in affordability, availability and customer service. 

In 2021, they have cut the requirements to qualify for its elite status program in half. So I thought I would take this opportunity to update our last rundown post from over 2 years ago.
