For this month, the offers with BMO and Tangerine from last month that were expiring have all been extended. Now the Tangerine offers are set to expiry before month end.
Keep in mind that we still have the Top Cash Back Credit Cards page, which includes permanent and temporary offers if you wish to see a more complete list of cards, not just cards that offer at least 10% cash back.
For the most part, 2022 was a relatively quiet year in terms of changes to the credit card industry (in terms of permanent offers). There was a significant amount of all-time high sign up bonuses, which do not factor into our ranking system. Our rankings are based on the intention of retaining credit cards for the long term, not based on churning.
For this month’s list, there were only really changes to the RBC offers, which extended the expiry of their promotions.
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is looking to complete a mega deal by purchasing HSBC Canada, who has 130 branches and 4,200 full time employees in Canada servicing some 780,000 customers. This massive deal can come out to $13.5 billion CAD. There are going to be a lot of hurdles along the way before this gets finalized. But if it has been announced in the news, it usually means that it is moving along.
For this month, you will notice that all the current offers run well into 2023, aside from Brim Financial. All previous offers that were scheduled to expire in 2022 where slightly modified and extended into 2023.
Limited Time First Year Fee Waived Offers
This year started out strong with all-time high sign up bonuses from various credit card issuers. Unfortunately, it is starting to look like we are closing out the year on a low note. Earlier today, we published a post regarding the end of the MBNA Alaska Airlines cards. Now we are writing a separate post on one of my personal favourites, MBNA Best Western MasterCard, who is also coming to an end.
For this month, there were quite a few changes relatively speaking. First of all, most of the previous month expiring offers were extended by a few months longer. The BMO Business and Tangerine offers will be coming to an end before it makes it to the next monthly list. Also, we added the Rogers Connections card in the permanent offers section.
BMO preemptively extended the deadline of their personal card offers until the summer of 2023.
HSBC extended their offers to the end of February 2023.
Scotiabank extended their offers and increased some sign up bonuses.
TD changed up their TD First Class offer, as well as increased its annual fee.
RBC extended their offers throughout end of fall and into the beginning of 2023. The only card that will not make it to next month’s list is the RBC Cathay Pacific offer. Furthermore, two new RBC offers (Ion cards) have been added to the list.
Today, we are featuring spokesperson, Niranjan Vivekanandan, Senior Vice President, Loyalty & Merchant Solutions at RBC. He will be sharing more information on the RBC Avion Rewards enhancements. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions Niranjan.
